Dr. Faisal Saeed Malik
Dr. Faisal Saeed Malik is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Entrepreneurship, Technology-Management, and Innovation (EnTechnon) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and a Research Fellow at the Jackstädt Center of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research at the University of Wuppertal. His research lies at the intersection of entrepreneurship, international business, and organizational resilience, with a particular focus on how firms and institutions navigate extreme uncertainty, crises, and structural disruptions. His Ph.D. dissertation, “Terrorism, Corporate Performance, and Business Strategies: Presence, Impact, and Future,” awarded summa cum laude, has been widely recognized for its pioneering insights into firm behavior under persistent environmental shocks.
Dr. Malik has developed a distinctive and interdisciplinary research profile structured around three core domains: organizational resilience and dynamic capabilities, sustainability transitions and international business policy, and AI-augmented research methodologies. His work combines rigorous empirical analysis with conceptual and methodological innovation, positioning him at the forefront of contemporary debates in strategy and entrepreneurship.
His publication record reflects a strong trajectory across leading journals. His recent article, “Critical Materials Import and Environmental Preferences: Evidence from G20 and N11 Economies,” published in Business Strategy and the Environment (2026), examines how national-level dynamic capabilities and environmental tax structures influence renewable energy transitions. In Review of Managerial Science, he has co-authored influential contributions including “The Metamorphosis of Organizational Resilience: A Strategic Roadmap for SMEs in the Digital Age” (2026) and “Thriving in Turbulence: Resilience and Strategic Adaptation in Global Business” (2025), advancing theoretical and empirical insights into resilience and strategic adaptation under uncertainty.
Extending his work into entrepreneurship and design science, his article “Scaffolding Artifact in Entrepreneurship: A Design Science Approach” (2025), published in Journal of Business Venturing Design, introduces a novel artifact-based perspective on entrepreneurial processes. In parallel, Dr. Malik is advancing methodological frontiers through his work on artificial intelligence in research. His paper “A Hybrid Framework for Creating Artificial Intelligence-Augmented Systematic Literature Reviews” (2025), published in Management Review Quarterly, develops a structured approach to integrating AI into systematic reviews, contributing to emerging discussions on epistemic governance, transparency, and rigor in knowledge production.
He has also contributed to leading conference proceedings, particularly at the Academy of Management, with papers such as “Critical Materials and National Sustainability Strategies in Global Business” (2025) and “The Future of SLR Authorship in the Era of AI” (2025), published in Academy of Management Proceedings. These works reinforce his dual focus on sustainability transitions and AI-enabled research methodologies.
Dr. Malik is an active participant in the global academic community and regularly presents at leading international conferences, including the Academy of Management (AOM), Academy of International Business (AIB), European International Business Academy (EIBA), Family Enterprise Research Conference (FERC), and the Global Strategy and Emerging Markets Conference (GSEM). In 2025, he presented at several prestigious venues, including the Academy of International Business Conference 2025 Kentucky, USA, the Global Strategy and Emerging Markets Conference 2025, Mexico City, Mexico, the Academy of Management Annual Meeting 2025 Copenhagen, Denmark, the AIB UK & Ireland Chapter Conference 2025 Surrey, UK, and the International Business Workshop 2025 Bozen, Italy.
His recent and forthcoming conference contributions further demonstrate the breadth and depth of his research agenda. At the Academy of International Business Annual Conference 2026 Manchester, UK, he will present two papers: “Strategic Orchestration of Renewable Energy Transitions: Building National Capabilities Through Critical Materials and Environmental Taxes” and “Industrial Decarbonization in the G7: How Green Production and Environmental Policy Shape MNE Strategy and International Business Policy,” both advancing new insights into sustainability transitions and international business policy. At the Academy of Management Annual Meeting 2026 Philadelphia, USA, he will present “Who Governs Theory Building from Literature? RAG, Human Judgment, and Systematic Review Rigor,” which critically examines the integration of AI and human judgment in theory development. In addition, he has two papers accepted at the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference 2026 Alabama, USA: “Enhancing Systematic Literature Reviews through Retrieval-Augmented Generation” and “Meta Capabilities: Architecting Entrepreneurial Adaptability and Strategic Renewal.” Together, these contributions position his work at the intersection of entrepreneurship, strategy, sustainability, and methodological innovation.
In addition to his research, Dr. Malik brings extensive academic and leadership experience. He served as a Researcher at the University of Siegen from 2021 to 2024, contributing to major research projects on SME resilience and internationalization. Earlier in his career, he was Head of the Department of Commerce at GC University Faisalabad, where he led academic programs and institutional development. His career reflects a consistent integration of rigorous academic research with real-world application, including policy-oriented work on SMEs and resilience strategies.
Dr. Malik has a strong commitment to teaching and mentorship. He has designed and delivered doctoral and master’s courses such as Writing and Publishing Entrepreneurship Research, Grand Challenges and Entrepreneurship, and Sustainable Business Strategy: Building Resilience and Agility for the Future. He has supervised numerous theses and business projects, helping students develop academically rigorous and practically relevant insights.
His international engagement includes collaborations and guest lectures at institutions such as Centrum PUCP Business School in Peru, the University of Maryland (START program), and the Lahore University of Management Sciences. He has also contributed to entrepreneurship development as a long-standing trainer with the Entrepreneurship Development and Advisory Services (EDAS) in Pakistan.
Dr. Malik has secured multiple competitive funding awards, including DAAD scholarships, the Robke Foundation Award, the FABU Award, and the ZEFFT Research Award for developing a DFG project. He has also authored a proposal for the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation under the Philipp Schwartz Initiative to support at-risk researchers and is currently developing a major DFG-funded research agenda on organizational resilience to Black Swan events (FORBS project).
Beyond his publications and teaching, he actively contributes to the academic community as a reviewer for leading journals, including Small Business Economics, Applied Economics, Management Review Quarterly, Review of Managerial Science, and Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology. He also serves as a reviewer for major international conferences, including the Academy of International Business.
His research has been recognized through several distinctions, including the Best Dissertation Award from the University of Wuppertal and an Honorable Mention for the Student Paper Award at AIB. Through his interdisciplinary, globally engaged, and methodologically innovative work, Dr. Malik continues to advance scholarship at the intersection of entrepreneurship, strategy, resilience, and sustainability in an increasingly uncertain world.
