Nanion Technologies GmbH (2002; DE)

The university spin-out Nanion Technologies develops and markets instrumentation (patch clamp devices), related consumables (e.g. patch plates), and services focusing on academic and industrial research (in the pharmaceutical industry for ion channel active drugs).

The patch clamp technique is widely used for the analysis of ion channels, which play an important role in many of the vital functions and important diseases. Nanion Technologies has automated a previously largely manual, time-consuming process by a high-throughput process which reduces operating cost significantly.

Nanion is a very lucid example of how a successful university research project and utilizing networking for further development projects was used to build a business.

Its successful organic growth relies on generated cash flow and innovation persistence.
